The GREAT Great Barrier Reef

I Love Queensland. I’m proud to call it home.

B and I set off up to a lovely little nook called the Town of Seventeen Seventy (also in typical QLD fashion, shortened to just 1770). In all his adventures, he seems to have missed the vast and amazing coastline between Gympie and Cairns.

Because B is one of those odd morning people (the type I don’t understand and don’t always like before whatever time I determine as ‘reasonable’ on the day), we got up at 3am and were on the road by 4am. He loved the drive up – complete with a dodgy truck stop breakfast at the all famous Gold Nugget in Gympie.

We arrived to our lovely welcoming committee and got straight in the water (I don’t need much encouragement to get in the water but it helped that the entry was within meters of the end of our campsite).

The pictures really do the rest of the talking. If you go there definitely go out to the reef with Lady Musgrave Cruises, definitely be prepared if you get sea sick (like I unfortunately did – TOTALLY worth it) and definitely go to the pub.
